The problem with staff training is that everyone is at a different point. It is therefore best that areas train new staff in the assessment philosophy and how to use the software. An initial session at the beginning of the year with everyone contributing and one or two examples of assessed work from different subjects would be useful. This will reinforce cross-curriculum links and help moderation. It is important to stress that the formative element of the assessment is its main function and that constant reference to the criteria should be made in lessons rather than just using the system to generate reports at the end of the year.
